Too Many Carrots, by Katy Hudson

FIVE of FIVE stars

This is a lovely, beautiful book. The pictures are gorgeous and have a lot of detail to look at. Lots of little animal characters give me the chance to use lots of different voices when I read it out loud – and that always makes me happy.

But I never rate a kids book until I’ve read it to my 3 yr old granddaughter. She was immediately taken with Rabbit’s problem, and had lots of advice for him through the story. And the true sign of a five star rating: she wanted me to read it again the moment we finished.

It also gave us a lot to discuss. She talked about Rabbit having way more carrots than he needed, that one or two would have been enough, and how we don’t need to bring all of our possessions when we stay at a friend’s house. We spent a lot of time looking at the picture of the carrot party and deciding if we would like carrot juice or carrot soup.

It has everything I need to give it 5 stars. A good story, gorgeous detailed drawings, simple and basic lessons to be learned, lots of characters, and best of all – the request to read it again.

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to review an advance copy. This book will definitely be purchased and added to my granddaughter’s book shelf.
