FIVE+ of Five stars

As far as my almost-4 year old granddaughter is concerned, this gets more than 5 stars.
When she saw it on the book bench, right away she said, “Oh no, this one is SCARY! …LET’S READ IT.”

She was immediately engaged. She held her nose for the stinky monsters, she tickled the not-ticklish monster, she was able to guess the rhyming name of one of the monsters…
And the moment the last page was turned: “LET’S READ IT AGAIN.”

The monster descriptions were scary, but Marc Brown’s illustrations were pretty cute, so it balanced out. Every page had some way for the child to engage with the story, all the way to the end.

I checked this out from the library, but this book was enjoyed enough to be a keeper. Off to the bookstore we go!
